Team (Insert Name here) Squash

As of now, my squash team has no name yet because we are too divided over what to call it. We play just for fun.. no training or whatsoever we are just too bored and can't be bothered to go running or training.. rather play friendlies.

vs SMU
- lost 2-3 (they fielded their coach, but doesn't matter we would lose 2-3 too)

vs NTU
- lost 2-3 (their top 2 seeds didn't field, they were too good)
- draw 2-2 on additional matches

vs SP
- won 3-2
- won 3-2 on additional matches and repeat players

vs SJI
- won 3-2 (their top 2 seeds were not present, but doesn't matter results will be the same)
- won 4-3 on additional matches and repeat players

No more friendlies at the moment.. no one to play with quite boring. We aren't that good and we aren't lousy, but yet we lack people to play with. By right we are the ideal team to play with.. oh well. Anyone who is interested to play a team of Ds, Es, and Fs, please message me online!!! Strength of the team can be modified.

Review: Hei She Hui BOSSES @ Vivocity

My blog is starting to become more of a food guide/review I reckon. I have little else to blog about anyway so might as well blog about something that you MIGHT find informative and interesting rather than the boring poring life of mine.

Place:

(damn funny yet cool name for a restaurant haha)

Price: $9++ for a bowl of porridge, $4-$5 for dim sum dishes, $8 - $? for main dishes, kinda like an upgraded Crystal Jade place with the increase in price of course. 2.30pm - 5.00pm 50% off all dim sum.

Crowd: Working people from around the place during lunch hours

So yeah I was there for a treat that my aunt was giving as she has managed to earn a substantial amount of money from shares(right now C stocks seem to be the frenzy from what I have heard from my aunts who were discussing about shares e.g. Capitaland). Some other aunts and my cousin were there too for the free meal.

The environment there is pretty cool. On first look at the entrance of the restaurant, it seems very quiet and deserted and that the restaurant is lacking business. However when taken to our table deep inside the restaurant then we saw where the other patrons were. There were lots of window seats facing sentosa inside the restaurant.

Comfortable seats thats for sure. Nice view.

When we were seated, they gave us some appetizers which were quite decent. Cucumber and carrot sticks together with "spring rolls."(which had no filling but had the lingering taste of the actual spring roll)

Also, there is this little gadget that will help you attract the attention of a waitress/waiter when you want to order/call for the bill.

We had beef porridge and tian ji(frog legs) porridge. Both were okay only. Crystal Jade porridge is much nicer. The chee cheong fun was good. There are only good and bad chee cheong funs no in-betweens. Of course this restaurant isn't famous for its main dishes but the dim sum.

The xiao long bao as shown in the picture above is okay only I guess. Reason is when I bite into it, there is some excess oil inside the xiao long bao. A bit too much excess. However the xiao long bao holds itself together when you pick it up, unlike most other dim sum places where the xiao long bao will just collapse altogether when you try to take them from the plate.

Up next is a MUST TRY dim sum. It is called TIAN XIA DI YI BAO, Number 1 Bun in english. It is like the best char siew thing I ever had. The brown pastry surrounding the char siew is like totally omg. I can't really describe it. It is a mix between crispy, crunchy, sweet and soft. It is not like your usual pastry thing really. You know some pastries are like.. totally too crispy for your liking.. or some are just too soft and brittle. This is like a total in-between that has everything and will certainly appeal to you. The char siew inside is warm and delicious.

Next up is this thing shown in the picture below.. that I don't know what it is called. A thin layer of pastry with a thin layer of red bean paste (dou sah) inside. Amazingly good. The red bean paste is hot and there is a generous amount inside. The pastry is not too thick, not too thin. Everything is just right about it. Another must-try.

Finally the last dish that I am going to recommend is.. egg tart. No these aren't your ordinary egg tart. The special thing about these egg tarts are.. they are not made from the egg yolk. They are made from egg white. Much healthier and as delicious. They blended egg white with coconut milk I think. Quite a novelty.

This is really a good dim sum place(just don't order the main dishes). There are many more dim sums that I didn't have the space in my stomach to try. With a 50% discount during off-peak hours, I am sure I will be back for more dim sum when I have the craving.

Review : The Line@Shangri-la

Went there for lunch today. Decided to write a review of the place as I got nothing else to blog about as my life is so boring that I want to start school asap.

Place:

@ Shangri-la Hotel.

Price : $45+++ ($53 per person in the end)

Cuisine : Mediterranean.

Crowd : The young and affluent with a few retirees spending their pension there. The young and affluent I am referring to are in their late 20s to late 30s. A lot of them are female and are wearing snug fitting office coats/cashmeres. Not your usual office girl but the ones earning 10k+++ a month. Their make-up are not overdone and they look good in their attire. Too bad I don't have any photos of them. Maybe tong would have.

Environment : Very chic. White table tops, with a silver cutlery and menus on the table. White cushioned chairs that are pretty cool. Orange stuffs hanging from the ceiling to add to the ambience with lots of spotlights.

Basically I went there for my friend's birthday lunch. I tried all the food available there in small portions. My first plate consisted of japanese food, yabbies and oysters. Sushis were okay, not really spectacular. Sashimi was fresh as expected. Yabbies(the small version of lobsters, a part of the crayfish family) were fresh too, pretty decent. Same for the oysters. Everything is prepared right in front of you. Not really excellent but the presentation of the food certainly helps as shown below in the picture.

As you can see, they don't flood the display with more food than ice, which will make the food less appetizing. There are little glass cups and bowls with oysters and prawns in them which were certainly very attractive too as depicted in the picture below(on the plate).

So after consuming all the seafood, I went for 2nd round. There is nothing to write much about for 2nd round as it was a bit disappointing. The italian pasta and pizza were passable. Marche or rather vill'age has better pizzas than the ones here. I had some chinese food after the italian cuisine. Theres a selection of dim sum consisting of siew mai, char siew bao, xiao long bao, soon kueh and 1 or 2 other that I do not know the name of. It was as good as the italian cuisine. The roast duck was okay. Very soft and tender. There was also porridge but I decided not to take rice.

Next stop was the Indian food section. Nothing much to expect from there really. Indian cuisine is NOT GOOD in the first place, aside from roti prata. But still, I tried a lot of the funny dishes there out of curiousity. Nothing really appealed to me. The satays were grilled on the spot for you and they were okay. Their mutarbaks were a joke though. Never try that at the Line. Roti prata is decent, but al-ameen pratas @ bukit timah would trash it upside down.

Theres also lots of miscellaneous food like pineapple rice, lamb chops, beef, steamed fish etc etc. Lamb and beef were easy to chew on but nothing extraordinary.

Finally we move on to the dessert section. A wide range of dessert to choose from. There are cakes(tiramisu, chocolate, blueberry and mango), smoothies(raspberry, blueberry, strawberry), fruits, nonya delights, pies, crepes(lazy to put the accent on top) and teppanyaki(is that how you spell it?) ice-cream.

The layout is very nice. Theres another similar shelves of dessert next to this one that I photographed.

My tiramisu and smoothie. Tiramisu was okay. 6/10 I give it. It didn't have enough of the tiramisu taste. Kinda diluted. The smoothie was not as good as the ones they sell at Bakerzin.

Last but not least we have the chocolate fountain.

4 storeys of chocolate oozing down from the top. Sticks of biscuits and strawberry for you to dip them in chocolate. The biscuits were terrible though. The teppanyaki ice-cream was not good too according to my friend. You could mix a lot of stuffs in it like oreos topping and this and that.
Overall:
Pros- Good ambience, good crowd, solid spread of food, fresh seafood, nice seats and tables, decent price, temperature of the place is perfect, excellent service(they cleared my plates as soon as I finished and they were prompt in helping us take extra cutlery)
Cons- No free flow of fruit juices or drinks(need to pay extra, and one drink costs like 15 and above), not-so-good food(the food on my cruise was better)
Worth a go for 50bucks. Good place to chill out and catch up.

Laptops and a car vacuum cleaner

Laptop - $2898

Car Vacuum Cleaner - $99

Me - broke.

I like the laptop that I got. Here are the specs if you are curious why it costs so much more than other laptops.

Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz 4MB L2 Cache
15.4" Screen
DVD Writer
160GB Hard drive
1GB RAM DDR 667Mhz
ATI x1700 512MB
Vista Biz

And the design is 2nd best to HP DV series. I thought of getting the HP dv9000 17inch laptop. However I decided against it.. it is a bit too weird and exaggerated to bring to school.. people might think I am trying to be funny when I take out during class or something.
